Primary Connect’s first branded road train hit the road in May 2020 to service our customers in Victoria and Queensland.
Rick Xerri, Senior Network Development Manager for Primary Connect, said the refrigerated road train was another benefit realised through the great partnership with Nolan’s Interstate Transport to deliver fresh fruit and vegetables to our Woolworths Supermarkets.
“It has been great to work with Nolan’s on this project and promote the Primary Connect brand on our roads,” Rick said.
The road train is currently being used between Melbourne and Brisbane and is able to carry 44 pallets (22 pallets in each trailer).
Nolan’s Interstate Transport currently runs six road train trips a week. This reduces the amount of B-doubles on our roads by two a week.
Flea Nolan, Director of Nolan’s Interstate Transport, said a road train had the capacity for an extra 10 pallets when compared to a B-double.
“Utilising our road trains reduces wear and tear on our equipment, allows for more rest opportunities for other drivers and dramatically improves efficiency,” Flea said.
All road train prime movers travelling into Melbourne are required to be fitted with an IAP unit to track and trace the vehicle and its trailers for its entire journey.
The unit also detects trailer temperatures throughout the journey to ensure freight is kept at the right temperature when it reaches its destination.
