During the week of Christmas, our distribution centres move 240 tonnes of prawns for Woolworths Supermarkets, 10 times more than a standard week. A large portion of those prawns are grown by our supply partner, Seafarms Group.
Seafarms is one of the largest producers of farmed prawns in Australia. Based in North Queensland, Seafarms operates and sells prawns under the well-known Crystal Bay Prawns® brand.
Prawns are produced by Seafarms all year round for Australian retailers, such as our Woolworths Supermarkets, and export markets.
We were awarded the tender to move fresh tiger prawns from Seafarms’ processing facility in Cardwell to wholesalers in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne. In the lead up to Christmas, several pick-ups will occur daily to meet the huge customer demand.
“We look forward to building our partnership between Seafarms and Primary Connect.”
“With a range of carrier options and competitive transport rates, our decision to award Primary Connect the tender was a logical step in achieving greater flexibility, and transport efficiencies,” Dallas Donovan, Chief Operating Officer, Seafarms Group Ltd said.
“We look forward to building our partnership between Seafarms and Primary Connect.”
We also support Seafarms with transport and storage for its frozen tiger prawns. The prawns are collected from a Brisbane storage facility and moved to our Primary Connect distribution centres and other wholesalers in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth.
Primary Connect was able to find a transport solution in North Queensland that benefitted both Seafarms and Primary Connect’s transport providers, Nolan’s Interstate Transport and Mystgold.
Our Heathwood Frozen and Chilled DC in QLD supports Seafarms with freezer and chiller storage solutions.
