Safety is at the core of everything we do at Primary Connect
Our commitment is to create a safe, supportive, and healthy environment for our team members and partners. We believe that by working together, we can all contribute to a culture of safety and wellbeing.

Our Place is Woolworths Group’s promise, a fundamental commitment to the safety, health, and wellbeing of every team member. Our goal is to build a workplace where everyone feels safe, supported, and valued – a place where we all take collective ownership of safety. It’s how each of us, regardless of our role or business unit, makes every day safer, healthier, and happier. It’s our commitment to you and to each other.
Events
Transport Safety Day
Transport Safety Day is Primary Connect’s annual event for the transport industry where we invite carrier partners, industry representatives, and Primary Connect leaders to come together and discuss all things safety – from our recent safety performance and trends, to technology innovation in transport, and importantly, recognising outstanding performance and safety through our Carrier of the Year Awards.
At our 13th annual Transport Safety Day in 2025, DHL Supply Chain was our Large Carrier of the Year and Careys Freight Lines was our Small Carrier of the Year. Our Carrier of the Year Awards are about more than recognition. They are a testament to the collaborative spirit and shared dedication to excellence that underpins our entire supply chain. Thank you to our partners for their unwavering commitment to safety, compliance, and exceptional service.

Safety
Chain of Responsibility (CoR)
We care deeply about all road users. With a fleet of more than 1,700 transport assets and over 7,000 truck movements every day, we are out and about in Australia like very few other organisations. But this is dwarfed by the huge numbers of movements in our supply chain that are not in our direct control.
We need the support of carrier partners, supplier partners, business partners and our teams to work together to minimise injuries, incidents and potential breaches of the law. On-road safety requires all parties in the chain to behave in ways that ensure safe vehicles with safe drivers and safe loads are on the roads at all times. This is a shared responsibility that requires everyone to do their part.
The aim of Chain of Responsibility (CoR) is to ensure that any party with the power to control, influence, prevent or encourage on-road behaviours has a duty of care to ensure their transport activities are safe.
Safety
Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL)
CoR is part of the Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL), and legal liability applies to all parties for their actions or inactions. Find out more about your responsibility as a member of the chain on the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator website.
